Sports clubs such as ours play a significant role in the community and therefore have a responsibility to our members, patrons and their families. In recognition of this, the Port Adelaide Lions Soccer Club has elected to participate in the GOOD SPORTS program. The program aims to help community sporting clubs to responsibly manage alcohol, and better understand their Liqour License and duty of care requirements. It is the first nationwide alcohol management program of its kind.
As a community based club we believe involvement in this program is a way for our club to promote a healthy and welcoming club culture whilst working to consistently meet our duty of care obligations in regards to management of alcohol.
To become GOOD SPORTS Level One accredited we will address a number of criteria including having Responsible Service Alcohol trained bar staff. Drug and Alcohol Services South Australia is managing the GOOD SPORTS program which is proudly supported by regional sponsor the Motor Accident Commission (MAC). The program was developed following research conducted by the Australian Drug Foundation that showed by introducing responsible alcohol management policies, sports clubs were able to improve membership and enhance viability.
